art for your head "Amelia"
About the hat:
This hat is a freeform creation done with a combination of techniques....
felting (fulling)and needle felting. I've used merino wool as well as alpaca.
Reminiscent of the aviator/ascot appeal of the 1930's and 1940's, "Amelia" takes
flight from there. A little bit old, a whole lot of new. Somewhat steampunk-ish.
She is graceful, hand-formed... dramatic with much attitude. She is warm but
lightweight, funky and elegant.
The colors are warm grays accented with 3-D swirls done in various shades of
deep red. It is a very tactile piece. Her ascot/scarf closure is a combination
of vintage buttons from my personal stash.
The hat measures approx. 11" (27.9 cm) when laid flat. For reference only, the
mannequin heads are 21" (53.3 cm) in circumference. Please take the time to
measure your head by using a measuring tape around your crown, going around the
largest part of your head.
